What schools serve Providence Forge?

For families with school-aged children, Providence Forge is served by the highly regarded New Kent County Public Schools division. Providence Forge students attend New Kent Elementary School (grades PK-5, physically located right in Providence Forge at 11705 New Kent Highway), or depending on their address, George W. Watkins Elementary School in Quinton. From there, students advance to New Kent Middle School and New Kent High School (Go Trojans!). The county's $150 million in planned capital building projects reflects both the community's rapid growth and its commitment to keeping pace with an expanding student population. For the 2026-2027 school year, which runs August 24 through June 4, the division also introduced weapons detection systems at all schools and launched the Right at School before- and after-school enrichment program for K-5 students. What's coming to the area?

Providence Forge sits in one of Virginia's most rapidly developing corridors, and several major projects are on the horizon or already underway:

• I-64 Exit 211 Interchange Improvements: The roughly $94 million VDOT project to rebuild the Exit 211 interchange near Providence Forge as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) is now fully funded, with Gov. Glenn Youngkin allocating $20 million from the Transportation Partnership Opportunity Fund and the county doubling its own commitment from $10 million to $20 million. The design phase continued through 2026 with public outreach into July, and construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, with completion targeted for September 2029. Work includes a new two-lane Route 106 (Emmaus Church Road) bridge over I-64, new signals at the eastbound ramps, and a shared-use path.
• I-64 Gap Segment A Widening: VDOT's $209.5 million widening project, under construction since fall 2023, is adding one general-purpose lane in each direction from mile 204.9, west of Bottoms Bridge, to mile 215.6 just east of Providence Forge near the county courthouse. Completion is targeted for July 2027, a meaningful upgrade for commuters heading toward Richmond or Williamsburg.
• FedEx Shipping & Logistics Facility: Announced in August 2026, a 300,000-square-foot FedEx facility is coming to the Forge Logistics Center along Emmaus Church Road at Exit 211. The roughly $40 million project, developed by Scannell Properties, is expected to bring about 340 jobs to New Kent County when it opens in 2028, joining the AutoZone and Target operations transforming the corridor.
• Buc-ee's Travel Center: Virginia's second Buc-ee's is planned for 27.68 acres off I-64 at Exit 211, with roughly 74,000 square feet of retail space, 120 fueling positions, EV charging, and 557 parking spaces. The store's opening is tied directly to the interchange project: county officials expect it to open once the new DDI is complete, and a December 2025 amendment to the development agreement could push the timeline to as late as December 2031. • Virginia Breeze Bus Route: A new east-west bus line launched in April 2026, connecting 10 cities across Virginia with a stop in New Kent County — adding a new transit option for residents and commuters.
• Cox Fiber Broadband Completion (August 14, 2026): New Kent County and Cox Communications just completed their landmark ~$49 million fiber broadband expansion — a 100% fiber-optic network spanning over 566 fiber miles across the county. Approximately 3,053 homes that previously had limited or no broadband access are now connected, with more than 11,000 residents, homes, and businesses served. The project was five years in the making and positions New Kent as one of the best-connected rural counties in Virginia.
• New $56 Million Elementary School: The county's FY2027 record budget of $271 million includes funding for a brand-new elementary school, with the project moving through the design phase. A site is being finalized as the district keeps pace with the county's rapid population growth.
